Romney Finally Offers Some Clarity on DACA…Kind of

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney made headlines yesterday by stating that his administration would not cancel the benefits received by those who had applied for deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA).

Speaking to the Denver Post, Romney explained, “[T]he people who have received the special visa that the president has put in place, which is a two-year visa, should expect

that the visa would continue to be valid. I’m not going to take something that they’ve purchased.”

Romney went on to say that he intends to have implemented the “full immigration reform plan” he has proposed by the time DACA benefits expire, which would have to be within the first two years of his presidency if he wins the election.

Of course, we still do not know any of the details concerning this “full imigration reform plan” Romney claims to have proposed. He also referred to DACA as a visa, which it is not.

Still, we’ll give him credit for trying to talk about the issue and for offering a couple of details that have been sorely lacking in his immigration platform since President Obama announced DACA way back on June 15th.

Here is a

more detailed Los Angeles Times article on the matter.
