Mexico Monday

With all the talk of the GOP and Presidential Race here in the United States I thought it important to recognize Mexico is also in an election year.  Mexico will have elections on July 1st.  Over the weekend Mexico’s current ruling party the National Action Party (PAN) nominated a woman, Josefina Vazquez Mota for its candidate for the presidential race.  This is the first time in Mexico that a major political party has nominated a woman.  Vazquez Mota is a former Congresswoman is the hopes of the PAN to try and recover their damaged image from the dangerous Drug War which began in 2006.  Many recognize the PAN and President Calderon’s tough stance on the drug war as a big factor in the increased violence the past 5 years.

Needless to say, whoever wins the Presidential election in Mexico will face a tough road in curbing the drug war violence.  Many of the policies impacted by the new President will show a great impact on immigration and also policies with the United States.

I am of the opinion that the United States should not intefer with the politics of any other country. Allow them to work out their problems in their own fashion.
