This documentary is part of Current TV’s Vanguard series. In this documentary Christof Putzel examines the continued use of American guns by Mexican gangs and drug cartels. He even investigates how easy it would be for these guns to be purchased before being smuggled back across into Mexico.

Is this focusing on the guns that the ATF has been supplying to their favorite cartels? The influx of US guns into Mexico seems to be coming mostly from the US federal government. I would have written that view off a few years ago as a conspiracy theory but recent events have proven otherwise. It’s pretty sad. When I was living in Mexico I was offered a crate of Beretta 9mm handguns by the local police. I didn’t want anything to do with that.
The documentary focuses primarily on the fact that it is American guns fueling the Drug War. I am not sure but I believe it was part of last seasons documentaries in the Vanguard Series so that might be why it doesn’t mention the ATF mess. I am hoping to get a chance to do some write ups on that during the winter break. If you come across any good and informative articles let me know.
I’m not sure how to view Current TV shows. Are they available as digital downloads anywhere? Or must I subscribe to cable or own a satellite? Regarding guns, I understand that it is common for Mexican military to defect to the cartels, presumably taking their arms with them. This is another concern regarding the U.S. Merida plan to provide military armaments to Mexico.
I had CurrentTV on my cable till it disappeared last week but I was able to watch some of the older documentaries online. I will try and find the direct links and send them your way.
